Thai Pongal(தாய் பொங்கல்) is the major harvest festival of the Tamils which is celebrated widely by the people during the end of harvest season. Thai pongal is the Thanksgiving festival of the tamils which is celebrated for honoring the Sun which marks the Sun For its return to the northern hemisphere, for giving the people with the best and handsome harvest for the year. Thai Pongal is the festival where all the families nearby gather for rejoicing and sharing their joy and also their harvests with one another and during the festival the people offer the "pongal" which consists of the Milk, Jaggery and the rice for the Sun.Thai Pongal is filled with great excitement and with the "pongal" preparation and the new clothes are bought. Pongal is the important festival of major states of the India, as the people rely mainly on the agriculture as the main source of the income. The Pongal is the word which means actually the "spilling over" or the "boiling over" or "overflowing"of the milk which signifies the prosperity and abundance

During the festival monthe the front yards and the entrances of the every house will be decorated with the Kolam which is more than the art which is to symbolise the prosperity and happiness.தாய் பொங்கல்
